Problems with United Airlines NOT acceptable!!! machine


Our family of four travelled via UA all the way from Edmonton, AB to El Salvador, CA on July 2, 2015 on Flight Nos. UA-242 and UA-1461 (changed). We were specific in choosing our travel route due to the times of arrival in El Salvador. Our flight leaving Edmonton was delayed by over two hours in order for the flight crew to get some rest due to them working their maximum hours. We understand the importance of this protocol but there should have been a fresh crew to take their place!!! When it was time to board the next plane in Houston, TX, there was miscommunication as to which gate to leave from. We were given the "run around" THREE times before we finally got to the right changed gate number! After boarding the plane, there was a delay in leaving due to maintenance issues with the plane. A lot of time passed and then we were told that all passengers had to get off the plane as it was not fixable. We were told that we would have to wait for the arrival of another plane to use - only after it was ready to use. At the point the arrived plane was ready to use, people started to go through the boarding process when all of a sudden, the main doors were closed off and someone came to tell the group of us who were in the tunnel (passenger boarding bridge) up to the main door that there were maintenance issues with the plane (more specifically, a bathroom needed a plumber's attention). We had to wait for 45 minutes in that HOT tunnel where there is no ventilation. People were sweating profusely and getting dehydrated. We arrived in El Salvador around 11:30 pm when we were supposed to arrive initially at 7:50 pm! Because of this. our arranged pick up no longer became available and left and we had no way to communicate ahead of time to our ride of our delay. We had to make other pick up arrangements which made our arrival to our relative's home at 1:30 am!!! This was a big disappointment to start our vacation and was an inconvenience to our family. Our children were frightened to have to travel so late at night. Not to mention that with the time delays there was NO time to grab a bite to eat and there is NO way we were going to spend any money on the plane after going through that treatment! No offer for compensation of any kind was made and that is unacceptable also. People work hard all year to save up to pay for the over-priced plane ticket, without free food or snacks, without free TV, to go on their long-awaited and deserved vacation only to encounter countless problems with travelling!
